GIRL!
Award-Winning Comedienne/Actress Judy Gold
to Perform at L.I. Pride Festival (2001)!
by Jed

"We
never talked, my family. We communicated by putting Ann Landers
on the refrigerator."-- Judy Gold, on growing up.
Being
raised in a neurotic Jewish family certainly has its consequences,
and apparently one of them for statuesque (over six feet tall!)
funny girl Judy Gold was the development of her unique brand
of humor. She jokes not only about her family, but also makes
shrewd yet funny observations about the crazy world around
us, and she ain't too modest to joke about herself. When asked
by a fan if she had any plans to sell any "Judy Gold" products
in the future, Judy answered "Sorry, no plans at this time,
the only merchandise I would sell would be clothes/shoes for
tall women." The talented Miss Gold is scheduled to perform
at this year's (2001) Long
Island Pride Parade and Festival in the Park. Judy Gold
is truly a Renaissance woman and gay/lesbian icon for the
new milennium. She's a mother. She has won two Emmy Awards
(1998 and 1999) as a producer and performer on "The Rosie
O'Donnell Show." She won a 1996 Cable Ace Award for her
very own "HBO Comedy Special." And in 1999 and 2000 she was
recipient of the MAC (Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabaret)
Award for "Best Major Female Standup Comedian." Judy was also
nominated for "Best Female Comedian" at the 1996 and 2001
American Comedy Awards.
Judy
Gold performs all over the country. She has a special fondness
for female- and gay/lesbian-oriented causes. She performed
at the Ms. Foundation's 11th Annual Comedy Hour in 1999, which
was broadcast live on the World Wide Web. This event is one
of the Ms. Foundation's largest fundraisers of the year. It
funds empowerment and leadership-developing projects for women
and girls all over the U.S. Judy emceed the 11th Annual GLAAD
(Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards.
Being a parent, Judy joined the gay-rights organization HRC
(Human Rights Campaign) as a monthly columnist for HRC's
family project, HRC
FamilyNet.
Miss
Gold has been a seasoned comedienne and presence on TV for
many years now. A few years ago she was a series regular on
"All American Girl" in which she teamed with Margaret
Cho, another funny lady. Her credits also include "The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and numerous network comedy
shows and sitcoms. She's been a guest on every woman and gay
man's favorite talk-fest,"The View." Most recently,
Judy Gold has cemented her stautus in pop culture by popping
up every couple of weeks on "The Hollywood Squares."
Paul Lynde would be proud! Judy also landed a recurring role
as Leslie, Ryan Stiles' newest girlfriend and waitress at
the local bar, on ABC's hit comedy "The Drew Carey Show."
She hosts her own movie review show, "At the Multiplex
with Judy Gold," on HBO.
Trading
comedy for drama, Miss Gold recently starred with acclaimed
dramatic actress Glenn Close for the CBS TV Movie of the Week
"The Ballad of Lucy Whipple." To make the picture complete,
Judy added Theater to her resume when she appeared in the
female-focused "The Vagina Monologues" at the West
Side Theater in Manhattan. Miss Gold is in Manhattan a lot.
She'll be performing at Caroline's
Comedy Club in New York City on June 11th, 12th, and 20th.
Don't leave the Island? Catch her at the multiplex in August
in funny man Woody Allen's new film, "The Curse of the
Jade Scorpion." Don't leave the house? Check out Judy's
VERY cool website, www.judygold.net.
You'll see her AND hear her!
Judy
Gold genuinely seems like a nice person-- and not just because
she's involved with "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." On
her website, there's a section called "Ask Judy" where you
can send Judy questions. And she answers them! What other
comedy/movie/theater star will do that? Despite her image
of goodness, this mother isn't afraid to make a naughty joke
once in a while. At one New York City event, she declared
"I performed for President Clinton. I did stand-up comedy
for him too."
Don't
miss Judy at the Pride Parade! This is another "Judy" whom
the gay and lesbian community can call an icon. Remember,
"Garland" may sparkle... but this "Gold" is truly precious!
